Dissonância e Consonância por Bruno Walter.

“Dissonance demands to become consonance – it has to be resolved; on its striving to be reconciled and satisfied, on its desire to achieve harmony there rests, at bottom, the linear development of music – all music, regardless of who wrote it. This tendency – the striving away from a state of harmonic unrest to a state of harmonic rest – is fundamental to music, i.e. to Western music, which is my sole concern here: unshakeably bound up with this, as though with the force of some natural law, is the fact that dissonance is a dependent entity that strives towards consonance, not only forced to move on but forcing the musical argument to develop, so that all music finally achieves the ultimate peace of tonic chord.”
